Miracle of Love - Ram Dass (Book Review)

Have you ever lived with God? Do you ever desire a sense of one with Krishna or Ram ji while seeing the leilas that unfold in front of you?

Miracle Of Love - Ram Dass

The book is the work of Ram Dass, an American spiritual teacher and writer. He was one of many Western learners who sought the grace of an Indian monk with infinite abilities (or so we believe). This book takes you on a memorable journey with an outstanding man known affectionately as " Mahaguru or Maharaj Ji". The author has taken the pain/pleasure of collating accounts (real experiences) that many followers of Neem Karoli Baba recounted after his "Mahasamadhi" with his "Gurubhai"

While reading the stories based on actual experiences witnessed by followers, you may sense an enormous spirit that wandered throughout time and lived among us.

The Book

Technically, this book is a collection of leilas performed by Maharaj Ji and their implications for his followers. The encounters were not always pleasant; some devotees had to deal with realistic results since nothing can alter Karma (according to MaharajJi). However, one thing is sure: Maharaj Ji loved everyone, regardless of their earthly imperfections, and saw God in everyone. He urges his followers to rise and grasp cosmic happenings, disseminate love and harmony, and, most importantly, feed the impoverished.

He never interfered with nature, even though he changed the course of events on several occasions, but this is the inconsistency I experienced about him. He was pure, compassionate, kind, happy, and clever, with supernatural abilities, yet he never wanted his followers to consider him as a God, only as a mere human being.

My Experience

As you can read the author's true accounts, I am writing this review based on my personal experience.

I will discuss something from my life book about Neem Karoli Baba. To begin with, I knew nothing about Baba Ji until a few years ago. It wasn't until I moved to my current city, Faridabad, that I saw strange flashes of an older man looking at me.

Initially, I was unconcerned, but as these flashes continued over the day and night (and in my dreams), I became alarmed. All I could see was a tall, old bald man with a light beard and a white (occasionally coloured) blanket staring at me. I was in the hospital once and sensed his presence among the crowd, which astonished and worried me. That day, I attempted unsuccessfully to find him among the hospital's patients, but no one matched the portrayal I had in mind.

For a few days, I felt odd but felt better when I saw an exact picture on television while my mother was watching a devotional channel. The picture was of Neemkaroli Baba. That day, the flashes ceased, and I felt a connection to him. I'm unsure if old Karma or something else pulled me to him, but I now regard him as a fantastic mentor who helps me when I need him.

I hope Maharaj Ji's blessings remain with all his followers and the tribe receives his protection whenever necessary. May Maharaji continue to lead us on the correct road. Jai Bajrang Bali.

Pitra dosh is not a curse, but rather a reminder to be sympathetic and polite to the old and the feeble.

Everything You Need to Know Regarding Pitra Dosh or Pithru Dosham

In Indian Astrology, "Pitra Dosh" is regarded as one of the most damaging elements. Some consider it a curse from the ancestors. However, the reality is far from the myths perpetuated and requires correction. Here, I will shed some light on the impact of "Pithru-Dosham" and possible remedies.

So, What is Pitra-Dosha?

In reality, it doesn't imply any curse from forefathers. Instead, a karmic debt requires to be repaid. "Pithru-Dosham" is formed in a person's horoscope when their forefathers have committed crimes, mistakes, or sins during their lifetime. As a result, the individual is bound to repay this karmic debt; otherwise may experience various kinds of hardships in life. This cycle continues until the debt is discharged, either by facing the problems or substituting it with acts of kindness.

Different Types of Pitra-Dosha

Based on planetary positions, 14 types of doshas are mentioned and explained in Indian Astrology. Interestingly, the inappropriate position of mighty Rahu is considered the primary reason for Pitra-Dosh. Here, we will address three major types:

Ø Neglecting your parents/grandparents is one reason to face the problem. If you ill-treat your elderly, be prepared to face the wrath of god.

Ø It is also seen among families who continuously ignore/neglect essential rituals. This may include not conducting proper last rites, shraadh, pinda-daan, etc.

Ø Actions of your 'deceased or living ancestors' towards known/unknown persons may also create hardships for you in different forms.

Effects of Pithru-Dosham

Although the effects of "Pithru-Dosham" aren't the same on all individuals. You may successfully evade the consequences with your good deeds and compassion towards others. However, as per the  concept of Karmic astrology, individuals with "Pitra-Dosh" in the horoscope may have to face the following adverse effects:

  • Difficulties in the job. The constant struggle at the workplace.
  • Unsuccessful marriage and difficulty in conception or childbirth.
  • Possibility of physical/mental disability among newborns.
  • Family disputes or unnatural deaths in the family
  • Persistent health issues and financial instability
  • Frequent dreams about snakes
  • Dreams where ancestors ask for food/clothes
  • Unfavourable family environment. Constant fights over trivial issues among family members.
  • Loss of family reputation. In extreme cases, imprisonment

Powerful Remedies to Help You

  •  Worship the 'Peepal' tree, especially on Saturday.
  • Offer food/clothes to people in need or Brahmins.
  • Be respectful towards elders and seek their blessings. It will strengthen your Sun. Be compassionate.
  • Conduct "Rudra-Abhishek" in honour of your ancestors.
  • Worship Lord Vishnu, particularly in the form of Shri Ram.
  • Feed crows, street dogs or other animals.

Today's generation is responsible for repaying their predecessors' karmic debt. It can be done either by accepting the consequences of the "Karmic Law" or by participating in positive activities that can help reduce or lessen the severity of the obligation.

Note:  My sole purpose in discussing the subject is to warn people about the negative consequences of "Pitra-Dosh." I am not an astrologer or a subject matter specialist. I gathered information from multiple sources and compiled it to emphasise the need for respect, compassion, and love for our elderly. They have been left behind as we move forward and join the digital era. Instead of conserving time, today's generation is squandering it on social media, neglecting older adults. My main goal is to apprise youngsters about their primary obligations to family members, particularly older people. It's preferable to sit and listen to them, learning from their expertise, rather than searching for solutions to all of your problems on GOOGLE.

Barbarika, also known as Khatu Shyam, is a Hindu divinity who is revered throughout the country. He was one of the fortunate few to witness Lord Krishna in his heavenly glory on the battlefield of Kurukshetra

Barbarika - The Greatest Warrior

One of the amazing stories of a warrior in "Mahabharata" that I have come across is that of Barbarika. Few individuals are aware of his existence. In reality, if he had been permitted to participate in the great war of "Mahabharata" to demonstrate his skill, things may have turned out quite differently.
.
According to legend, Barbarik is Bheema's grandson and Ghatotkacha's son. He held three invincible arrows bestowed upon him by Lord Shiva, which might have finished the warfare in moments.

Barbarika's Word to His Mother

As the story develops, Barbarika promises his mother that he would back the weaker side to ensure its victory. This means that he had no prior allegiance to either side, in other words, he was non-committal. This disturbed Lord Krishna since he had the ability to affect the result of the fight.
.
Lord Krishna discloses to him the true cost of his participation on the losing side. Krishna warns him that any side he supports will simply render the other side weak owing to his might, since no one will be able to beat him. As a result, he would be obligated to back the opposing side, which has gotten weaker as a result of his promise to his mother.
Due of his pledge, he will continue to fluctuate between the two sides in a real war scenario. This was risky since it meant destroying both sides' armies until just him survived. As a result, because he will be the single survivor, neither side wins. This prompted Krishna to implore that Barbarika refrain from taking part in the war by demanding his head in charity, which he readily accepts.

Barbarika's Account of the Mahabharata War

Before beheading himself, Barbarika told Krishna how much he wanted to see the next war and asked him to make it happen. Krishna consented and positioned the head atop a hill overlooking the battleground. The head of Barbarika witnessed the entire conflict from the mountaintop till the conclusion.
.
Following the combat, the triumphant Pandava brothers disputed about who was to credit for their victory. Krishna proposed that Barbarika's head, which had witnessed the entire conflict, be permitted to judge.
.
Krishna, according to Barbarika's head, was solely responsible for the triumph. "All I could see were two objects," Barbarika responds. One was a heavenly chakra that spun throughout the battlefield, killing everybody who was not on Dharma's side. The other was Goddess Mahakali, who stretched her tongue over the battlefield and devoured all sinners as her sacrifice."
.
As the Pandavas discover this, they realise that it was Lord Narayan and Goddess Mahamaya who genuinely cleansed the universe of Adharma, and the Pandavas were only tools.

Barbarika As Deity

Barbarika had won a blessing from Krishna that he would be revered and recognised by Krishna's own name (Shyam) during the Kaliyuga era. Krishna had said that Barbarika's worshippers will be benefited just by saying his name aloud from the bottom of their hearts. If people worship Shyamji (Barbarika) with sincere devotion, their desires would be granted and their worries will be gone. He is known as "KhatuShyam ji" and is revered in Sikar, Rajasthan.

Shiva Lingam

Shiva Lingam consists of three parts. The four-sided bottom part remains underground, the 8-sides middle part rests on a pedestal. The top part, which is actually worshipped, is round. The height of the round part is one-third of its circumference. The three parts symbolize Brahma at the bottom, Vishnu in the middle & Shiva on the top. The pedestal is provided with a passage for draining away the water. The Lingam symbolizes both the creative as well as the destructive power of Lord Shiva. In response to a German Orientalist, Gusta Oppert who traced it to phallicism, Swami Vivekananda cited Atharva Veda that the worship of Shiva Lingam was sung in praise of sacrificial post: a description of the endless Eternal Brahman.
Shaped of the Lingam represents the ‘Brahmanda’ or the cosmic egg. There are two types of Shiva Lingam. One is a black meteorite egg-shaped stone. The other one is man-made and is solidified mercury. Solidifying mercury is an ancient Vedic science. Shiva Lingam represents the totality of the Cosmos & the Cosmos, in turn, is represented as a Cosmic Egg with no beginning, nor end (Hiranyagarbha). The truth behind the scientific research by the Danish scientist, Neils Bohr, demonstrates that Molecules are made up of Atoms which consists of Proton, Neutron, and Electron, all of which play a vital part in the composition of Shiva Lingam.
Instead of words such as Proton, Neutron, Electron, Molecules, and Energy, the ancient Rishis employed the usage of words like Lingam, Vishnu, Brahma, Sakthi (which in turn is divided into Renuka and Rudrani), Sarppa, etc. According to Sanatana Dharma, the Pillar is described as the column of fire which represents the trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara while the Disc or Peedam represents Sakthi. The Disc is shown with three ridges, carved at its periphery. Ved Vyasa mentions that Lord Shiva is smaller than the sub-atomic particle like Proton, Neutron, and Electron. At the same time, he also mentions Lord Shiva is greater than anything greatest. He is the cause of vitality in all living things.
Everything, whether living or non-living, originates from Shiva. He has engulfed the whole world. He is Timeless. He has no birth, no death. He is invisible, un-manifest. He is the Soul of the Soul. He has no emotion, sentiment or passion at all. The outcome of scientific research is that the world came into existence with the formation of Molecules. According to Science, two atoms make one Molecule. The valence of molecules indicates the combination of the atoms. It is essential to have a clear idea of the structure of an atom according to the findings of the Danish scientist, Neils Bohr explained it as- An atom is made up of Proton, Neutron, and Electron. Neutrons do not have a charge and so would continue on in a straight line. The nucleus of an atom is composed of positively charged Protons and neutrally charged Neutrons. Almost all the mass of an atom is in its nucleus. The nucleus is the very dense region consisting of Protons and Neutrons at the center of an atom. Electrons are negatively charged and so would be deflected on a curving path towards the positive plate.
But the whole atom is electrically neutral on account of the presence of an equal number of negative electrons and positive protons. The electrons revolve rapidly around the nucleus in circular paths called energy level. The energy levels are counted from the centre outwards. Each energy level is associated with a fixed amount of energy. There is no change in the energy of Electrons as long as they help to revolve in the same energy level and the atoms remain stable. The Bohr model shows that the electrons in atoms are in orbits of differing energy around the nucleus. It is like planets orbiting the Sun. An exam of the image of Shiva Lingam in the context of the Bohr model would demonstrate the puzzling truth that Brahma hs created the world. The behavior of Proton, Electron, Neutron, and Energy are well demonstrated by Shiva Lingam. Vishnu signifies Proton with a positive electrical charge. Mahesha signifies Neutron with no electrical charge. Brahma signifies Electron with a negative electrical charge.
Sakthi is Energy. Sakthi is a type of energy field represented by a Disc. Shiva Lingam represents the atomic structure. As per Rishis, Shiva & Vishnu are present in the Lingam. In Sanskrit, the three lines signify multiple. In the atomic structure, there are Protons and Neutrons which are surrounded by fast spinning Electrons. Sakthi is represented by a Disc in oval shape with three ridges carved at its periphery. She is Energy and plays a vital role in the Universe. In portraits of Vishnu, a lotus is depicted as arising from the navel of Vishnu & Brahma is seated on the lotus. Which signifies Energy which has the force of attraction. The stem of the lotus can bend because of its flexibility signalling that Brahma moves around Vishnu.

This is a message that Electron is attracted to Proton because of the opposite charge. Neutron is depicted as Shiva which has no charge at all. The nucleus of the atom also contains neutrons. Neutrons are about the same size as Protons, but have no electric charge. Neutrons are bound very tightly in the atom’s nucleus with the Protons. When the atom’s nucleus contains as many Neutrons as Protons, the atom is stable. Similarly, the ancient sages provided the idea that when Shiva is not disturbed and separated, he remains calm.
Shiva remains calm because Sakthi takes the form of Renuka. The energy which forms the molecules is denoted by its valency, which in Sanskrit is Renuka. Renuka is one produces Renu or molecule. Two atoms make one molecule. Sakthi is Shiva’s wife & dances around Shiva throughout. However, when Neutron is disturbed & separated natural disaster occur, which signify that Shakthi turns out to be a terror known as Rudrani (Kali) performing destructive dance, signalling natural disaster. The actual producer of molecules is Electron which signifies Brahma. Modern physics shows that Electrons are shared between the atoms to form a molecule. Therefore the Hindu concept that Brahma created the earth is in conformity with Science.
If a person meditates, his/her energies will naturally take the form of Lingam. As the first and final form before dissolution is also a Lingam, Lingam is considered as a gateway to the beyond. In Sanatana Dharma, Lord Shiva is considered as the Supreme Truth. There is another scientific truth that water poured down on the Lingam is not considered as holy water or Theertham as it is called. Shiva Lingam is considered to be an atom model. There is radiation from Lingam as it is made out of a type of granite stone. Granite is a source of radiation as it is formed out of lava solidified over thousands or even millions of years, contain naturally occurring radioactive elements like radium, uranium and thorium. That’s why it’s advised not to touch water that is poured down on the Lingam. The sages were aware that there will be radiation fall-out if some accidents occur and that is the reason that Shiva Temples were built close to the vicinity of sea, ponds, rivers and tanks.

Dear God

In earlier days, people had more faith on God, good deeds and destiny, that perhaps prompted them to follow righteous path . They were driven by the desire to do good to others, positively shaping their outlook. As times changed, with economic progress, we got entangled in our jobs, our lives got more complicated, we lost the grip on religion. At times, even with intent to perform puja, we often find ourselves short of time.
For long i was an atheist, more inclined towards science rather than god, even enthusiastically debated with friends and colleagues about the veracity of the supreme being. Never shied away from questioning the belief of myself or others. But as time elapsed, i found refuge in religion from the vagaries of life, i am not sure whether the events unfolded shaped my outlook, or was oriented since beginning. It took me long time, patience and sorrows to re-investigate my theories of life, to rescue myself from the miserable darkness i was treading for too long. It took me eons and after wasting precious time, that i could acknowledge the difference between science and faith. Well science tells us the air i breathe in is oxygen, while exhale out carbon dioxide, but its faith, that tells me the rhythm is maintained by god and one will continue to maintain it as long as he wishes, science can't prolong it.
In today's age of commercialization, where almost all relationships are smudged in trade, can relationship with god be free from this trait? Here, i am only speaking from my personal experience. I am only trying to provide a sneak peek into my mind, what transpired in my thought process, that compelled me to lounge for his(god) refuge. Under the influence of society, peer pressure, my only concern was to secure materialistic wealth, never gave prudence to the idea of contentment. I was under the impression that i understand happiness, understand god. I could only visualize my relationship with god as a two way trade, one is a sort of investment, where i would be able to reap benefits in long term by praying, the second one is more direct, an exchange a kind of barter trade, where i pray to get benefits in short term as if we both are into trade where my prayers are directly proportional to the returns in short time.
Never did i realize the bond between the devotee and the god is beyond the paradigm of a commercial transaction. In establishing your bond, what one should seek is his patronage, his blessings, the investment is your devotion and the returns one should look for is his acceptance to your prayers. One must not seek returns in your relationship with almighty rather unconditional trust and entrusting yourself to the divine will is paramount, let god be your swing while you enjoy the ride.

"Hanuman Chalisa"

"Hanuman Chalisa" is a devotional hymn dedicated to Hanuman ji who is a devotee of Lord Ram. This hymn has forty verses, describing the qualities of Lord Hanuman, and is recited with belief that the same qualities are imbibed in our character. I have been reciting the hymn since childhood and is trying here to translate the "Hanuman Chalisa" in English.

You take delight in listening to the stories of Lord Ram, Ram, Lakshman and Sita thus reside in your mind.

While appearing before Sita ji  in the Ashok Vatika, you took a small form but then assumed a monstrous form when burning Lanka.

You are the doorkeeper of Shri Ram's divine abode, and no one can enter there without your permission.
All the comforts of the world lie at your feet. When you are there, why should I be afraid of ?

Hinduism

Often difficult to understand who's a Hindu or "Sanatan" (Eternal) Dharm, today read this beautiful article and sharing with all , hope u will like it --

‘Hindu’ is a geographical term. It is not name of a religion, as is often believed. Inhabitants of lands across the Sindh – Indus river -- were called Sindhus by all who came from the West. Later on, the name Sindhu was distorted to Hindus. Hindus were known to be people who lived in sync with Nature, and were spiritual people and through their experiences emerged the Vedas. Hinduism is a way of life – a truly spiritual way to life. The sun shines and gives out heat. It has been doing so for ages, it is sanatan - eternal. Does anyone have any right on it, can a Hindu or a Muslim religious leader claim it to be theirs? That which is sanatan is not property of any one cult or religion.
Sunrays fall on all equally, they light up everything irrespective of caste creed or colour...that is Nature’s Law – sanatan – eternal. Air gives life to us, it too is eternal. Everything on this planet is composed of five elements – panchtattva. These five elements – earth, fire, air, space and water – are sanatan – eternal, for have always been around ever since.

It is these which need to be revered, respected and worshiped rather than some mind created paths which you are tuned to. Humans should strive to be comfortable and in tune with the universal energies because they are a product of these energies, the five elements which are compiled and formed into the highest form of specie – humans, according to Universal Intelligence, so as to follow universal mechanism and laws of Nature.
This is the basic guna of every human -- to act according to Nature -- which is whole and complete – perfect for natural evolution of all the species and expansion of the Universe.
One has to be part of this magical and divine cosmic play and this is the highest joy of being a human. Human is here to celebrate life according to laws of Nature, enhancing each other towards growth, glory and grace. Where is the space for human created religions in this most spectacular, grand and wonderful eternal divine cosmic play.
Like Kabir Das ji said:
“Kankar pathar bien ke masjid diya banaye,
uss parr mullah baang de, kya behra bhaya khudai"
                                                         – you collect stones and build a mosque and on it stands the mullah and recites his prayers loudly; is the Khuda hard of hearing.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Paahan poojey Hari milay, toh mein pujon pahar;
                                                          – if by worshiping stone you can find Hari, then I will worship the mountain itself; better to worship the grindstone, for it provides food to the whole world.”

Veracity of Ramayana

This is an article recently published in Pioneer though interesting but do we actually need to prove veracity of "Ramayana" . Isn't  the teachings in the book sufficient enough to excel it beyond doubt ? deserves veneration from sane mind ?

Ramsevak Kol, a tribe from the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh, stands head and shoulders above other Indians.  Genetic studies prove that he is one of the descendants of King Guha of Ramayana.  An international team of researchers consisting of geneticists, anthropologists, archaeologists and historians have found that Ramayana, written 10,000 years ago, is a chronicle of events and characters recorded by Sage Valmiki and not a work of fiction.
The mystery behind the characters in Ramayana has been solved by a team led by Dr Gyaneshwer Chaubey, ace genetic scientist of the Estonian Biocentre in Estonia. A three-year long research by Dr Chaubey and his team drawn out from Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, Delhi University, Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur and Institute of Scientific Research on Vedas has found that the Bhils, Gonds and the Kols, categorised as Scheduled Castes and Tribes by the modern day administrators of India are the true descendants of characters featured in Ramayana. The peer reviewed scientific paper authored by the team has been published by PLOS ONE, a respected scientific portal.
The Kol tribe, found mainly in areas like Mirzapur, Varanasi, Banda and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, are the descendants of the Kol mentioned in Ramayana, according to Dr Chaubey and his team. Remember Guha, the chieftain of Sringiverapuram who helped Lord Rama, Sita and Laksmana cross the Ganga during their journey to the forests? “Guha, the Nishad King, is the ancestor of the present day Kol tribe we found in these regions. This ancestry was established by genetic studies. These groups of people carry the basic indigenous genetic traits of India. Ramsevak and thousands like him spread across the States of UP, MP, Odisha, Chhattisgargh are the true descendants of Lord Rama and his contemporaries,” Dr Chaubey told The Pioneer from Tartu in Estonia via video conferencing.
Dr Chaubey and Prof VR Rao, an anthropologist in Delhi University, said that the studies proved that these groups of people have maintained their genetic continuity for more than 10,000 years. “This again sets at rest the Aryan invasion theory. There is no inflow into the genetic traits of these tribes from outside elements,” said Saroj Bala, a specialist in Vedic and Ramayana studies, who shot into fame by calculating the date of birth of Lord Rama based on planetary positions.
Prof Rao said the studies confirmed that the characters mentioned by Valmiki in Ramayana are real life characters. “King Dasaratha, Rama and others were not fictional characters,” he said.  Dr S Kalyanaraman, an Indologist of repute, said the Kols are the iron smelters about whom there are mentions in Indus Script excavated from the banks of Indus as well as River Saraswathi.
“This paper by Gyaneswer Chaube and team is an attempt to explain the roots of Hindu civilisation which has been distorted by creating false ethnic identities by the categorisation of people,” said Dr Kalyanaraman. He said a comprehensive study incorporating all tribes should be undertaken which would prove that the breaking up of essential unity of Bharatiya identity based on caste and ethnicity are academic fiction with no basis and a distortion of the history of ancient India
