A Year Of AAP Government

A year has passed, i must say a glorified year when a mob of people surged ahead to claim highest seat of governance in Delhi under Arvind Kejriwal. A new dawn had emerged when people tired of corruption, sycophancy ,nepotism ,arrogance of established political parties voted in mass to decimate established politicians. It all started with India against corruption agitation by Anna Hazare against numerous scams of UPA government that polarized and awakened society. The transformation of movement into political party (AAP) and emergence of Arvind Kejriwal clout and anointment as CM is a truly celluloid blockbuster story.

Over 60% of Delhi population lives in slums and unauthorized colonies with no basic infrastructure. Arvind successfully struck a direct chord with urban poor Delhi voter (AAP got 65% of urban poor vs 23% to BJP) which resulted in securing 67 of the 70 Assembly seats.
Kejriwal who was frequently being accused of anarchists and dramebaaz quickly transformed himself as administrator by executing poll promises .Some of the major achievements of AAP government as propagated are -
a) Removal of red beacons and end of VIP culture
b) Electricity rates reduced by 50% for up to 400 units of consumption
c) 20,000 litres of free water per month per connection
d) 300+ night shelters for the homeless established
e) CAG audit of power discoms ordered
f) In Delhi Jal Board, 800 employees transferred, 3 suspended for corruption
g) Anti-corruption helpline 1031 started
h) Nursery admission helpline started
i) Awarded Rs. 1 crore to family of police constable who died fighting the liquor mafia
j) Inspection of 500+ govt schools by volunteers completed
k) 36000 contract jobs were made permanent which benefited around 1,80,000 people
I believe its too early to gauge performance of government but few shortcomings that hogged limelight are startling. Firstly, AAP government has provided cheap electricity by giving direct subsidy to distribution companies (discoms) is disappointing as freebies like these end up ruining state budget and the proposal for Comptroller and Auditor (CAG) looking at the books of the discoms remains entangled in litigation.
Another half cooked idea which later turned out to be stunt was commendable decision to scrap the quotas in private schools. The decision was to scrap  75 percent of the total seats quota except 25 percent for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and thus seats will be up for grabs by all admission seekers. It is no secret that the mafia had captured the education system and made it a business, its the biggest scandal of independent India . The government rightfully tried to bring in some sanity in admission process but alas in haste as the decision was set aside by court.
This problem was because of scarcity of schools and one major reason for all this is the poor state of public schools. Government should have given advisory to private school management to gradually transform them instead of directly attacking their freedom in running school .Truth is government should have focused on improving the infrastructure and recruited better quality teachers to uplft standard of schools.

Another stunt orchestrated by AAP was implementation of odd-even scheme, initially it was inferred to reduce air pollution (even though car pollution is less then 2%) but ended up increasing hardships of common man due to woefully inadequate public transport while air pollution remained static as studies by IIT Kanpur suggest.
The pathetic response of AAP government towards strike by Municipal Corporation of Delhi employees resulted in the pile up of garbage on Delhi streets and unavailability of doctors and teachers who also joined the strike. Allocation of Rs.536 crores in the Delhi budget to self promoting ads, raising salaries of MLA's , unceremoniously kicking out the Bhushans and Yogendra Yadav for dissension are few other things that hogged the limelight. For all his failures and frequent rundown with LG ,Kejriwal tries to shift blame on Central govt. Being an IRS(Indian Revenue Service)  officer he was well aware of the constitutional limitations of Delhi yet he made false promises which didn't see the light of the day .Tempting people with promises and then shifting blame on others for non fulfillment is a shrewd thing .
Truth is Kejriwal has no solution to the spiraling problems of the people –massive poverty, massive unemployment, massive malnourishment, almost total lack of healthcare, lack of infrastructure in slums and unrecognized colonies, deplorable condition of schools etc. are some other problems seeking immediate attention and Kejriwal should direct his energies towards fulfillment of problems and showcasing a governance model for other political parties to emulate.
A party which emerged from the fire of anti corruption crusade seeking transparency in political horizon is now neck deep in the slumber as dissent is not tolerated read the article to understand the pain http://indianexpress.com/article/blogs/dear-kejriwal-its-time-to-steer-aap-back-to-the-values-from-where-it-emerged/
It would be premature to judge a political party and its performance in one year's time but as an Indian and a firm believer of democracy we need a strong, vibrant, political party apart from the usual choices we have and we can't afford to let a party of volunteers transitioned into being self centered ,mired in sycophancy and run on whims and fancy of few.

Riot by Shashi Tharoor

Firstly the novel would have sold few more copies had it been renamed "No one killed Priscilla Hart ". Its an intriguing story about an idealistic girl's murder in the backdrop of riots, the Hindu-Muslim riots in a small town of Zalilgarh, in U.P set in 1989 . Violence and sex is the central theme of novel and author peddles his thoughts eloquently about ground realities prevalent during turmoil. So,what's unique about this novel unfortunately nothing (awesome sex description scenes).
An idealistic American student Priscilla Hart visits India to volunteer in women’s health programs and got embroiled in a steamy sexual relationship with a married IAS officer and that's the only part that can keep one captivated otherwise its in the backdrop of a religious riot with bad, ugly, bloodthirsty Hindus against innocent, submissive Muslims is a given, as the author is only reinforcing stereotype but that's the liberty an author has.

Gangs Of liberals

"The guarding dogs of the previous regime bark the loudest because they are now denied the juicy pieces from the dining table of the master"

For last few weeks newspapers (English) are loaded with views expressed by esteemed intelligentsia expressing anguish over JNU episode. These self proclaimed liberals have reiterated concern over stifling space for freedom to speak.Epithets like "Hitler", fascism ,emergency ,communal were flung at incumbent govt and PM Modi in particular .  General secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was quick to find synonyms between 2016 India and 1930's Germany and stated ‘it’s a replay of how nationalism and jingoism [was] used by Hitler. Ironically all these political honchos and there sidekicks have not left any social platforms or media courts in trivializing govt that they accuse and vehemently protest off citing shrinking space to express freely.
The same liberals and left leaning individuals who ridiculed BJP as communal and mocked PM Modi as non-resident PM, seems to be in haste to compare the situation today with that which prevailed India in the mid 1970s(emergency invoked by Congress), or in Germany in the late 1930s. The truth is during emergency no political discussions were permissible, media was censored, opposition political leaders, student leaders were routinely picked up and incarcerated without murmurs, nothing of such condition is visible or heard now.
Such is the foolhardiness of liberals and cohorts to denounce Modi government that they even sided with thugs of JNU, who raised and supported anti national slogans in campus. There flawed reason was to support the freedom to dissent among students to which they blindly leant support. To there dismay this stunt backfired when people across spectrum along with students community disassociated and distanced themselves from seditious sloganeering thugs of JNU. The zeal to portray government in poor light by projecting intolerance towards students thus lay in tatters as students across country demonstrated against anti national thugs and demanded stern action against anti nationals .
There are numerous incidents when liberals, left leaning intellectuals and certain NGO's came under same umbrella to show solidarity towards Naxalites, who in there opinion are in armed resistance against state because of atrocities meted out by administration. This gang of opportunists seldom talk about atrocities of naxals towards adivasis (tribals) they claim to represent, or violence and human rights abuses by naxals on critics and state machinery. The unabated killings of security personals and elected representatives also go unnoticed by these self proclaimed liberal gang.
This gang of liberals even ridiculed and mocked unfurling of Tricolor at Central Universities and Kendriya Vidyalayas calling it an assertive attempt by nationalists as ill timed. One of the senior journalist tweeted that “This decision will surely polarize the atmosphere further in this country”, such is the level of venomous discourse one confronts where national flag hoisting is looked down upon by liberals. The certainly proves that air in Delhi is indeed poisonous and unfit for nationalists to survive with liberal, leftists ,pseudo secularists mocking Indian democracy and raping our fundamental right of free speech enshrined in constitution.
The recent case of violent agitation in the name of reservations laid bare the duplicity of liberals, while they screamed over inefficiency of government to restore law & order they were quick to call deployment of army as sledgehammer approach. These liberals and cohorts never uttered a single word against agitators fearing loss of political clout but were denouncing government for chaos and loss of life and property.
Old fault lines are deliberately dug out and dramas are orchestrated to maintain a heated charged up social environment in the country and government is certainly losing on perception of wedded to it . The efforts of government to maintain social harmony and renewed emphasis on development and progress is the only way to discourage and thwart attempts by gang of liberals to destabilize country and ushering in new path of progress.

If God Was A Banker By Ravi Subramanian

It is a story of two young graduates from premier Management institutes of country who started working for a Multi National Bank. Both came from different family and social backgrounds with one aggressive in his approach towards life and can go to any extent without moral bandwagon to restraint himself. The other a Tamil-Brahmin is just and rightful always bogged down by his shy and introvert approach but finally succeeded in life with his head held high and moral compass intact.
The story is full of cheap sleazy gimmickry fit for some B grade Bollywood movie , at times it becomes confusing. The author has nothing much to write but a story full of sex and a message that virtuous guy with ethics will succeed in life irrespective of hardships and impediments in life. It's a simple story of good triumphant over evil with erroneous sex stories where girls were always victims.

JNU Travesty

For years media has incontestable run in complete complicity with left leanings central govt. Everything was hunky dory, powerful media created and tarnished images of individuals and groups with impunity, this honeymoon period of media - govt complicity continued for decades. People were eating out of there hands, next media created celebrities who take it upon themselves to report news and influence opinions with twist to glorify or play victimhood for one ideology while demonizing and blemished other ideology. Everything that went bad in India was assigned to a specific ideology blaming them for all the ills in our society without being confronted.
For long the adjudicator inside such media wallas wasn't challenged and masses were tolerant towards there partisan reporting . Subversion and manipulating facts was always for strengthening democracy in country. Silent majority had to quitely contend with idiocy and hypocrisy of such media celebrities till they got a powerful medium to express (social media) to question and vent there opinions much to the disbelief of established media wallas. Free speech and freedom of expression are buzz words exploited mischievously by these celebrities to denounce anyone not toying there thinking. These celebrities free run ended with the advent of social media.
Unfortunately for them good times didn't last there lifetime giving nasty heartburn and shock to media celebrities. The sand castles they deligiently and painstakingly constructed were ravaged by people. Suddenly the king was caught naked with pants down by people whose ideology was mocked and ridiculed in the guise of liberalism and pluralism. For such sick media celebrities who hound others in a pack of wolves endorse Tipu Sultan as patriot while question the Bharat Ratna for Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. Kamlesh Tiwari for them doesn't have the right to express but Azam Khan has,the Kejriwal's of the world can abuse incumbent PM and these media celebrities suck up to him without raising fingers on content and manner.

The hypocrisy of media wallas can be gauged from the fact that they discuss and browbeat about Dadri lynching for weeks without fail at expense of tarnishing communities goodwill and tearing the social fabric but there conscious bites the dust when  27-year-old PV Sujith was hacked to death by CPM workers in Kannur district of Kerala . Ravish,Sagarika,Rajdeep,Barkha's of the media world find it disturbing and consider stray attack on individuals from one community as growing intolerance of masses, give unstoppable sermons on religious bigotry while displaying ostrich approach if the victim belongs to religious majority.
The recent case of raising Anti India slogans by bunch of students in JNU was case in point. The ferocity with which police swung into action after public outcry is laudable and real culprits who knowingly participated in such protests along with sloganeering thugs should have been ideally nabbed and incarcerated without delay. These media wallas in connivance with politicians deligently distorted facts and politicized issue.
While people were outraged at JNU thugs conduct over seditious slogans, media liberals tried to again play mischief by focusing more on poverty of Kanhaiya and religion of Khalid. The zeal of certain media morons to again blemish central government as intolerant towards students by trying to put onus of blasphemous sloganeering on ghosts. Funny it maybe but ignominious acts of JNU accused is being justified by abusing hooliganism of few individuals in courts. The Kanhaiya  gang is exonerated of sedition by focusing on hooliganism of few who indulged in violence.
The situation in our country has deteriorated immensely in last few decades,so as to now the secularism and liberalism is preached even when bunch of thugs raise seditious slogans in the heart of India.  In our democracy freedom to speech and expression is worthless if it doesn't strengthen our country . It's shameful that instead of incarcerating thugs of JNU our media wallahs have mischievously manipulated facts so efficiently that we Indians are engrossed discussing what freedom and patriotism is.

Finally its high time media wallas who have been dethroned should introspect rather then indulge in dramatics. There pretense of portraying themselves as holier than thou doesn't cut much ice with many Indians as they have been exposed multiple times and integrity is in shambles.
